Newsletter 4, week Commencing 21/1/18

Round 3 of the best of 5 from 10 Scores, 15 holes Stableford competition, winter session, wasplayed on Friday 19th January 2018

Only 12 players last week but some amazing scores were achieved, as you will see and for the first time, we have no players receiving a shot back.

Congratulations to Stuart Baird this week’s victor and commiserations to Jim Wilson who has come in the top three for the third week running.

Peter Broady and Ken Narraway could not be separated  with 35 points each (no change there), with equal count back scores. All four players lost shots.

At the beginning of the winter session you may not have realised that the Seniors Handicap committee made some changes to the rules which are shown below:-

Following the handicap sub-committee meeting held on Friday 22nd December, we haveimplemented just a couple of minor changes in light of feedback from members:-

1 – Handicaps will not be reset and they will roll forward.

2 – Winning scores of 6 or more under par will lose 3 shots. (Currently, 2 to 3 under lose 1 shot, 4 to 5 under lose 2 shots). Previously 2 shots was the maximum penalty.

3 – Non-winning (ie 1st ,2nd or 3rd) scores of 4 or 5 under par lose 1 shot, 6 or more under par lose 2 shots.

4 – Shots back, will be reduced from the current 65% of best three scores to 60% of best three scores. This will reduce the number of players receiving a shot back.

Additionally, anyone with a handicap of 28 will be asked if they wish their handicap to go up towards a 36 limit.

Ron has asked me to make an appeal to our member’s as we need more match organisers. At present we have 4 organisers Ron Thornton, John Hayes, Rob Taylor and myself. As you will notice all four of these members are either on the Committee or assisting with other seniors activities already!

We need more members to step forward and volunteer to help, so please make a commitment by talking to Ron or myself about how you can help. Please contact us this week!

2) John Hayes who is now on holiday in Australia and New Zealand has asked me to inform you that he has booked another 4 ball for the Padeswood open and he still has space for 2 more entrants.

If you are interested add your name to the notice on the notice boards

3) Ken Pearce has placed a notice about the proposed 2 days golfing trip on the notice board. Please read this and add your name if you are interested in attending.

4) Our on course reporters are both tied up with other commitments at present, so it you have any anecdotes or photo’s of on course incidents, please let me know, so I can include them in our newsletters.
